Tire Pressure Part 2 of 4 (But not about tire pressure at all)

September 24, 2006

One of my pet peeves in life is seeing the same old worn  out personal finance stuff in every article I read.  That is why, starting this blog off with TIRE PRESSURE advice is nutso. My own pet peeve relived… however.

Here’s the deal gang, the tank is empty and time to fill it up. So I aired up my low tire.

This got me to thinking. How much money did it cost me to WAIT to air up my tire? As a matter of fact, how much money to we cost ourselves by waiting to do a whole host of things.

- Wait to send off a bill and get a late fee.
-  Wait to order a gift and have to pay for  overnight  shipping.
- Wait to buy a new suit and have to pay full price.
- Wait to apply for your promotion and get beat out.
-  Wait to write a Thank You note and lose out on a customer for life.
There are many ways that waiting can hurt us financially. But I admit it is very difficut to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

I’ll let you know how much it cost me to wait to air up my tire.

The Age Old Tire Pressure Advice

September 20, 2006

I admit, I was never convinced that keeping up your tire pressure could make any difference in your gas mileage. Over the years I’ve done a decent job of tracking my gas mileage and I’ve never noticed that having low or high tire pressure made any difference. It also never mattered whether one tire was low or all of them.

However, I’ve had an interesting development. We have a slow leak in our driver’s side rear tire. I track the mileage on every fill up. Well… the last time I filled up the tire was aired up and we got 27 miles to the gallon. This time the tire was low and we got 23 miles to the gallon. So, I am going to air up the tire and fill up the tank and let you know what happens!
